The truth about stories is, that's all we are.
No, I did not come up with that — Thomas King did when writing The Truth About Stories: A Native Narrative. King's words emphasize the powerful influence of both our internal and external narratives on our lives. I carry this idea with me every day, and it's reflected in my writing and storytelling.
Below, you’ll find examples of my work, which include oral stories, literary projects, and work for the stage and screen.
Finding yourself.
Back in 2020, I published a personal essay in Yahoo, reflecting on my own upbringing and unraveling the layers of shame that once hid my queerness. This is “Rediscovering the buried queen.”
Finding help.
Oral storytelling is a format that I love, as evidenced by THE SLOTH. Listen to my share from February 2024 about help and incidentally joining the ranks of a long line of compassion spanning over 50 years.
2020 was a record year for many reasons, but let’s not forget that it was a year of record. I coordinated the remote production of countless videos while at Verizon Media, but one of the best projects was a partnership with the US Census to reach young Latinx people living in the United States. We utilized top Latinx content creators to create an engaging and motivating video for Gen Z viewers, and we won a Shorty Award for our efforts.
